For The Reader, artist-writers have been invited by Kadist online to respond to a historical painting of a woman reading, and to imagine what’s happening on the page of a book, or in the mind of the women reading it.

Dozens of these paintings from museum collections around the world have been collected for the project. The second contribution (en français) is from Paris based artist and writer Marcelline Delbecq. Visit to listen and click on The Artist’s Wife Reading, 1883, a painting by Albert Bartholomé.
